SOUTHAMPTON LANTERN FESTIVAL PARADE 2020
Saturday 8th February 2020
15:30pm – 19:00pm
Southampton Guildhall Square
The UK Shaolin Temple’s Chinese Lantern Parade marks the official closing of Southampton’s 2020 Chinese New Year Celebrations. Like many Chinese New Year customs, the Lantern Festival promotes togetherness; where family and friends reunite amidst the glow of many lanterns. The UK Shaolin Temple brings this unique celebration to the heart of Southampton city. Traditional activities usually include watching and presenting lit up lanterns, solving lantern riddles, eating dumplings in soup, enjoy lion and dragon dances.
Join us for more fun on the evening of Saturday 8th February 2020, which marks the final evening of the CNY 2020 festivities. The main event includes a stunning Chinese New Year Lantern light parade, where young and old can experience Southampton Chinese Arts. This parade is a visual feast of colour and light, as a sea of lanterns accompanies our dazzling luminous Dragon. The parade commences at the Southampton’s Bargate, travels down the high street, and finishes in the Guildhall Square. Don’t miss an opportunity to snap a picture with our star, the Dragon.
We are collaborating with Southampton City Council, the Chinese Association of Southampton and the Confucius Institute (CI) together we are celebrating the Chinese lanterns festival 2020.
