City Councillor celebrates National School Meals Week

Cllr Baillie visited Member school, Swaythling Primary for lunch to join us in celebrating National School Meals Week.

We invited Councillor James Baillie, who is Cabinet Member for Education at Southampton City Council, to celebrate our fantastic school meals team, and to shine a spotlight on the importance of school meals in and out of term time.

The Swaythling Primary kitchen served as a hub over the summer holidays supporting our collective effort of over 13,000 meals for the Holiday, Activities and Food fund programme in Southampton. In term time, the team produce just over 100 meals a day for the school community - or 16,000 a year!

Donna Peters, Area Manager for Swaythling commented on the visit:

"The staff and pupils at the school made us feel very welcome and the children had lots of questions for our Deputy CEO, Martin Orman and Councillor Baillie! We'd like to say thank you to Ann and her kitchen team for making us a delicious lunch - roast chicken with all the trimmings."

Cllr Baillie visited during National School Meals Week - a time for the country to promote the benefits of school meals. It was perfect timing, as it coincided with the launch of our brand new winter menu, which has seen us increased the portions of vegetables on offer and the number of meals cooked from scratch!
