Cooking at Home project gets Barclays funding boost!

We are excited to announce that City Catering Southampton is one of 100 UK charities to be awarded a £100k donation from Barclays which will help us to continue our important work throughout the city by supporting those most vulnerable impacted by COVID-19.

This extends on to the fantastic news we that brought you at the beginning of October about our successful application for The National Lottery Community Fund.

Charities were invited to apply for one of 100 donations of £100,000, and Barclays were flooded by hundreds of applications from leading charities across the UK.

Back in April, Barclays launched their 100x100 UK COVID-19 Community Relief Programme to support COVID-19 relief work in local communities.

The programme, which forms part of their wider COVID-19 Community Aid Package, focuses on supporting UK charity partners who are meeting the immediate needs of people in our communities, including low income families, those facing financial hardship, isolated elderly people and key workers.

The grant will enable us to extend our Cooking at Home + Lunch Crowd projects, reaching more families at risk of food poverty during the school holidays via recipe-led grocery boxes, whilst enhancing the online support offered to all to support healthy home cooking.

Our Cooking at Home initiative was created to empower and inspire healthy home cooking and provides those using the programme with the following:

  • Healthy and simple nutritional meals

  • Easy-to-follow educational YouTube cookalong tutorials

  • Professional guidance from one of our in-house school chefs

  • Peer-to-Peter support through our dedicated Facebook group

Nigel Higgins, Barclays Chairman, said: “COVID-19 has created an unprecedented social and economic impact in the UK, with many experiencing greater hardship due to the crisis. Incredible charities, such as City Catering Southampton have been playing a vital role in the UK’s response to the pandemic, ensuring urgent help reaches those most in need of support. As a bank we have been doing all we can for our customers, clients and colleagues, and we hope that by partnering with City Catering Southampton and many other charities across the UK, collectively we can ensure that as many people as possible in the communities in which we live and work are supported through this crisis.”

We can’t wait to keep everyone updated on the progress, here and on our social media accounts. You can also sign up to our mailing list for updates
