8,300 children celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee with City Catering

This summer, 8,300 of our member school children celebrated Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with two special Jubilee-themed school lunches – a street party-themed picnic and a more formal, sit-down hot meal.

Our Kitchen staff across Southampton worked tirelessly to put on a fantastic spectacle with the lunch menu going down a huge hit with our member school children.

We also put together a free downloadable activity pack to keep children engaged during the holiday break and featured Jubilee-themed games such as a crossword puzzle, colouring sheet and word search for children to enjoy.

This year we partnered with Artswork, who created an exclusive puppetry workshop with Touched Theatre and Mount Pleasant Junior School’s Year 4 pupils, all thanks to funding from Arts Council England via Hampshire & IOW Community Foundation and their Let’s Create Fund for the Jubilee - you can read more about that here.

We then capped off the celebrations by making the recipes available online for everyone to try at home as part of our Cooking at Home programme.
