We’ve joined the Good Grub Club family!

This summer, City Catering has joined the Good Grub Club family! The perfect blend of both our Lunch Crowd and Cooking at Home initiatives, Milbrook’s Good Grub Club has previously been ran by housing association, Abri who have switched to funding the programme. In partnership with the wonderful team at Colne Avenue Baptist Church we kicked off running the club with a fab session last week.

For those who don’t know, the Good Grub Club aims to support families on low-incomes or those eligible for Free School Meals in the local Milbrook area with access to good food during the school holidays and by offering cooking support and education - two things that we are super passionate about as a charity!

Our first session saw us all make one of our favourite at-home pizza recipes, topped with plenty of veggies, a pasta salad and fruit kebabs. Giving families - and especially young people - hands on (and messy!) cooking prep opportunities is great fun, and really important in helping people try new flavours! Everyone went home with a bag of ingredients also to replicate the pizza at home. Did you know just yoghurt and flour makes an awesome pizza base?!

Whilst the joint-kitchen team of our cooks and volunteers from the Church finished off the lunch in the kitchen - we enjoyed some activities. First up, was a ‘get to know you’ session giving us the opportunity to hear direct from young people how they’d like the club to run and what foods they’d like to try - with Dragon Fish topping the charts! We also welcomed Becca and Beth from Solent NHS Trust for a seed growing activity (everyone went home waiting hopeful for some herb growth this week) - and we finished off with a games room session, thanks to some kind donations from our Head Office neighbours, including Linden Group and Serge DeNimes.

We will be hosting the Good Grub Club throughout all the school holidays, offering consistent support for families. We have lots planned for the coming weeks, and will be welcoming lots of partners too. Keep an eye on our social to see how we get on!

If you would like to support the Good Grub Club, either by partnering or donating, please contact us at admin@citycateringsouthampton.co.uk.

Families and other organisations can self-refer into the club. Please do contact us also at admin@citycateringsouthampton.co.uk and we can let you know a little more about it. We are working hard behind the scenes to launch a Club in the Mansbridge area too - so watch this space!
